“Use it or lose it!” Have you ever been told that?

Most of us heard that, especially as you get up in age. That phrase rings in my head constantly. Every day that my eyes open, after saying “Thank you for another day,” and whatever else that needs to be said, that is my next thought. “How am I going to spend this day? What new thing can I do on the blog, the website, our Facebook page? How can we get more donation for the children?”

Your Brain Is Your Most Valuable Asset

Those who know me understand that while I am not a Rhodes Scholar, my brain is my most valued asset. Many years ago and every chance that I get, my daughter hears that should Alzheimer come upon me, take me out back and you know what.

Actually, it is my greatest health fear. Not diabetes that I have had for almost 30 years now. Losing my mental capacity and awareness, that scares the heck out of me! As if to stave off that possibility, my brain is always actively on to something. Whether planning my day, my week, my month or my life – it never stops.

One undergraduate degree, a completed graduate degree, another one uncompleted, and a couple of post-graduate diplomas later – every day, my most valuable asset improves.

You Are Never Too Old

Frankly, too many people consciously stop putting in the effort to add value to their brain. You just cannot do that if you want to move forward in this technological age.

Are you one of those who think that you are too old to learn a new thing each day?

Do You Use Technology?

If we are going to keep up, not in terms of style and fashion but with our children, grandchildren and in society in general, you have to learn something new every day.

Ten Reasons Why You Should

There are many reasons why we should never stop learning. Search the Internet, if you know how to use the “Google Machine,” and you will find numerous reasons. This particular article drew my attention.

Here are the ten reasons The GoodLife Centre gives why we should learn something new every day:

  1. It enhances your quality of life
  2. Reduces stress
  3. You gain confidence
  4. Knowledge is power. When you have it you have the power to achieve many things.
  5. Improves your mental health
  6. Socialising. Social connections are vital to our mental well-being.
  7. Be selfish. Learning something new might be the excuse you need for some “me time”.
  8. Have fun
  9. Set an example for your children and young ones in your life
  10. Rediscover your passion

What Are You Waiting For?

Those are reasons enough to stop waiting!

You do not have to start big. There might not be resources available to you to go university and get that degree that you always wanted. However, do not let that stop your learning. Maybe you can take a course or two. Many universities allow drop-ins. Try that. It will excite your brain cells!

So you cannot start that import/export business you always wanted but nothing stopping you from doing a small mail-order venture, is there? Sell your craft items online!

It costs nothing to take the first step, if only for fun and to do something different. Learn something new every day! Download and use a new app on your smartphone.
