Enemies: “Judge Me By The Ones That I Make”

Enemies can’t break your spirit, only friends can.”― Arundhati Roy

Enemies, Please Go!

Don’t we all wish our enemies would just disappear completely from our lives? If we never see them again, we could have everlasting peace. Right?

Every time their names pop up, anxiety or resentment is our first response. Worse of all, they are sometimes being rude towards us and those we love. Then to make matters worse, we might see them thriving (or so we perceive). All while being mean to us. It is during these times we may be experiencing storm after storm.

No, They Cannot

Reading my go-to Psalm 23, it hit me that my enemies can’t just disappear. They can’t just vanish from my life. They must stick around.

Verse 5 reads,

God prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies. He anoints my head with oil; my cup overflows.”

This means our enemies must be present to see the goodness of our God in lives. They must see God picking us up out of the pit they placed us in and advancing us to the palace, just like Joseph.

They must see the overflowing of blessings in our lives when the tables turn and they are experiencing famine. Oh yes, the table will turn.

Do Not Be Dismayed

So do not be dismayed my friends, our enemies must linger around us a little longer. Time is the master of every situation. One thing is for sure, “when God is pleased with us, even our enemies must be at peace with us.” You will get some peace-meal.

Stay strong. They must see you thrive and grow, reaping joy for those tears. They must see beauty springing out of the ashes from the fire they lit on our heads.

I ask you to judge me by the enemies I have made.” ― Franklin D. Roosevelt

I pray that God will grant us peace while we wait on our restoration and vindication. That anxiety and sadness will not be our portion. Instead, our enemies action or non-responsiveness will be like water on a duck’s back; it will be a non-factor in our physical and emotional well-being.  What they do or do not do, eventually will not matter.

Peace Perfect Peace….yes, that which passeth all understanding, is within our grasp!
